Volunteers

Congratulations to all our volunteers and thank you for your help and continued support at Spark!

Volunteer Spotlight – Dennis Jones

Twenty-seven year old Dennis Jones is a lifelong Lebanon resident who has been volunteering at Spark! since our beginning.  Dennis has been employed in various capacities at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center since high school; he is currently working in the Food and Nutritional Services Department at the medical center.

At Spark! Dennis enjoys interacting with all the participants, especially children, who all love him unreservedly, and playing games and music.  He can usually be found at Spark! a couple of times a week, and almost always for our Friday Fun Nights.

When he’s not working, or volunteering at Spark! , Dennis enjoys snowboarding, skiing, and music.  He loves music so much that Dennis has served as a DJ at Spark! events as well as a volunteer and DJ at Happenings dance events for the Special Needs Support Center.

Spark! participants readily agreed that Dennis is a special person, noting that “He’s willing to help anyone!” and “He’s such a kind person.”

Want to Help?

We are looking for fun, creative and enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about helping adults with special needs reach their goals and maximize their full potential while enhancing their social inclusion and integration into the community. You can make a big difference in someone’s life! You can be the key to lighting someone’s spark!

Would you like to teach a class? Are you available to participate in one of our planning committees? Would you like to help us man the Center and make sure all participants are having a quality experience when they visit us? If this sounds interesting to you, please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page for an application.

We are actively recruiting volunteers for our Friday Fun Night Events when we provide a free dinner, along with some form of entertainment.   Are you interested in volunteering? Or do you belong to a community group or local business that promotes volunteering?  Spark’s Friday Fun Night events are fun and volunteering is easy! If you or your group has time between 5:00pm and 8:00pm on Fridays, we would love to have you as a friend of Spark!  We need 3-6 volunteers every Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Some typical duties include:

Setting up the dining room

Helping with finishing touches on dinner buffet

Assisting with meal service

Joining participants for dinner, conversation and fun!

Helping with after dinner clean up

If you have time and are interested in joining us as a volunteer friend of Spark! Community Center, please email us at program@sparkcommunitycenter.org.  Any support you can give us will be greatly appreciated.  We will follow up with a call in the next couple of weeks to gauge your interest or answer any questions you may have.
